I figure going forward I will just refer to my great-grandmother as Granny, as that is what we all called her anyway.
I mentioned in my last blog post that Granny liked to go out to eat with us practically all the time. Well, there was this one time in particular that really sticks in my memory.
When we went out to the restaurant that day, she was being particularly nice to the waiter and calling him things like “sugar” and “sweetie-pie”. She then politely asked him what he would recommend from the menu. He mentioned a particular dish from the menu and told her it was really good. She thanked him and told him that was fine and she would have that.
While we were all waiting for our food, the conversation we were having with Granny had turned somewhat sour. I unfortunately do not remember the particulars of the conversation, just that it put her in a foul mood.
After some time had passed the waiter brought out our food. Granny still fuming from the earlier conversation looked down at her plate and flat out exclaimed “What’s that shit?!” The poor waiter looked absolutely horrified and immediately started stammering out an apology. He asked if there was anything he could do to rectify the situation.
Naturally we were all quite horrified ourselves and quite embarrassed to boot. Granny had made quite a scene, as she tended to do. Needless to say our waiter made a pretty decent tip that day!
