I stopped in at McDonald’s this morning for a bit of breakfast. While I was munching on some bacon and sipping my coffee, I began to contemplate McDonald’s latest restaurant remodel. It feels as if they are going for that “modern” vibe that a great many places are switching to these days.
One of the first things I noticed were the new self-service ordering stations. You can now simply walk up and tap your order in on the large touchscreen located conveniently by the entrance. This morning however, I opted for the more traditional ordering method of speaking to an actual person.
One of the things I really like about this remodel are new outlets with USB charging ports installed in them. If you come in with your mobile devices in need of topping off, you can simply jack in to one of the many upgraded outlets places around the entire dining area.
The new seating that has been installed with this remodel is not very comfy. I preferred the more cushioned variety that was associated with the previous remodel. I have also noted that the dining area is a bit more brightly lit than the previous iteration as well. The older remodel had more of a relaxed “coffee shop” vibe going for it.
One of the final things I took note of was the lack of anything that looked remotely “kid-friendly”. I didn’t see any sort of display for the latest Happy Meal toy set. This may just be more of a location specific thing, though. I do know of other locations that have play areas and whatnot and have gone through the same remodel.
I suppose I’m just looking back through those nostalgia glasses that a lot of people do as time passes, but I kinda miss old Ronald and the gang these days. The ghosts of the Hamburglar and the other McDonaldland characters seem to haunt the halls in my mind…
